The complex requirements of adhering to MIL-STD-130, the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) standard for labeling and tracking all military property, is a source of confusion for many military prime contractors.
With MIL-STD-130, military subcontractors are required to place item UID labels (or unique identification labels) on their equipment. However, many struggle with the often-confusing concept of UID. In fact, the DoD estimates that only 10 percent of military contractors fully meet the requirements of MIL-STD-130 currently.
