Q: Considering that I do not have any matched set parts that require 2D or machine readable marking at this moment, how do you think this would apply to human readable marking? For example, if I was to include both items, I would not format the marking as 97499SOCNMSET206-010-440-001 would I? – Joe H.
A: There are two ways to include both the SOCN and the MSET. The way described (i.e. 97499SOCNMSET206-010-440-001), and also as two separate marks:
Mil-Std-130 doesn’t address the issue. Therefore, contract administration staff (e.g. DCMA) would be hard-pressed to find a defensible way to complain if either were used. So I think they can use either.
Personally, I’d use the two marks if there were room on the data plate to avoid confusion. Feel free to contact us for further questions.
